Warren’s Ferry has strong start to college career | News, Sports, Jobs

WAYNESBURG — The Penn State Altoona men’s soccer team opened its 2022 schedule on the road Saturday night, falling 1-0 to non-conference opponent Waynesburg University at John F. Wiley Stadium.

Waynesburg (1-0) broke a scoreless tie midway through the second half, as Luke Griffith’s shot into the lower left part of the goal found the back of the net at 69:28 put the Yellow Jackets ahead. The home team protected its one-goal lead the rest of the way to clinch the win.

Penn State Altoona (0-1) got a strong performance between the pipes from Alexander Ferry (Warren/Warren), who made his first career start and recorded 14 saves.

Grady Ballard (State College/State College) attempted a team-high four shots for the Lions, putting one on goal. Luke Hall (State College/State College) took three shots, leading the team with two shots on goal. Alexander Rubio (Woodbridge, VA/St. John Paul the Great) and Nathaniel McCourt (West Chester/Salesianum School) recorded one shot on goal each.

Penn State Altoona men’s soccer returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Chambersburg to take on non-conference foe Wilson College in a game kicking off at 2 p.m.
