Tony Gonsolin Not Worried About Career High In Innings, Focused On ‘One Outing At A Time’

Read Time:2 Minute, 56 Second

The Los Angeles Dodgers won their 11th consecutive game thanks to the performance by Tony Gonsolin and a breakout from the offense during the seventh inning against the Kansas City Royals.

Gonsolin pitched 5.1 perfect innings before issuing a walk to Kyle Isabel, and he made it through six no-hit innings before allowing a single with one out in the seventh.

The right-hander then gave up a run-scoring double and another walk before being removed from the game. However, Gonsolin still earned his 14th win of the season by throwing 6.2 innings while giving up just one run on two hits.

After a slump in mid-July, Gonsolin has now had back-to-back quality starts and he wants to keep that going by focusing on one game at a time, via SportsNet LA:

“I’ve put together two good outings in a row now, so ideally keep it going. One outing at a time. Tonight was pretty good, so go get ‘em next time.”

With every start, Gonsolin sets a new career-high in innings pitched with 116.1 thrown this season. His previous career high was 55.2 at the Major League level, however, he did reach 128 during his 2018 season with the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Double-A Tulsa Drillers.

But despite Gonsolin’s workload, he isn’t feeling any fatigue:

“I mean, it’s whatever. Body feels pretty good. … I just try to go out there and compete when it’s my time to go.”

Although Gonsolin feels good, manager Dave Roberts has previously indicated it’s going to be a challenge for the team to monitor his workload, which signals they may look to get him some rest at some point prior to the playoffs.

In 21 starts, the 28-year-old now owns a 2.24 ERA and 3.47 FIP, along with an 8.12 strikeouts per nine and 2.48 walks per nine.

Dodgers designated Rylan Bannon for assignment

Rylan Bannon was designated for assignment as a corresponding move to make room for Tony Wolters on the Dodgers 40-man roster. Wolters was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City when Austin Barnes was placed on the family emergency list.

Barnes must be away from the team for at least three days, but no more than seven.

Bannon is now passing through waivers just four days after joining the Dodgers organization. He was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles, who DFA’d the infielder in a move that had not been publicly reported.
