The Franklin Chamber Choir to debut July 2 | Entertainment

The Franklin Chamber Choir, Franklin’s first professional choir, will perform its debut concert at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Franklin on July 2.

The group includes 16 professional singers from all over the country. Christopher Keenan created the choir to fulfill his dream to bring professional-caliber classic vocal ensembles to Franklin. He graduated from Centennial High School in 2008 and studied organ at Peabody Conservatory and the University of Texas at Austin before working as an organist and music director for various churches.

“I am thrilled to present The Franklin Chamber Choir,” Keenan said. “This project was born out of a desire to contribute a classical vocal ensemble to the vibrant musical culture of Franklin. I hope for it to be a lasting part of the Franklin community.”

The choir will be conducted by Keenan and Dr. Felicia Barber, who taught choir at Centennial for several years before becoming the director of choral activities at Westfield State University in Massachusetts. Her first book, “A New Perspective for the Use of Dialect in African American Spirituals: History, Context, and Linguistics,” was released in October of 2021. She will conduct a set of four spirituals.

The concert is free to attend and is slated to start at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church at 908 Murfreesboro Road in Franklin.
