State recognizes local business for over 100 years of service

CHILLICOTHE― Providing customers with quality furniture and quality service has been Globe Furniture & Mattresses’ mission during their over 115 years in business. This is a major reason the local family-owned business was recently recognized by the Secretary of State, Frank LaRose, during the August 2022 Ohio Business Spotlight.
The Ohio Business Spotlight highlights businesses that are strong examples of the state’s economic potential. It also helps to inspire entrepreneurs and help them learn what they need to succeed. Each month LaRose picks businesses from around the state that fit that month’s theme. This month the theme was “Over a Century of Service” highlighting businesses that have helped strengthen the state’s economy.
The spotlight mentions the store’s past and how the owners have faced challenges but adapted to stay in business as the times have changed. Globe Furniture has been a staple in Chillicothe for five generations, current owner Seth Brown said this is because despite adapting they have stuck to their principle of treating customers right and getting them what they need all while keeping competitive prices.
“If you take care of your customers and sell good products people will keep coming back,” said Brown.
While online shopping can be nice Brown said it lacks the one-on-one customer service shops like his can provide. Instead of scrolling endlessly online looking for furniture workers at Globe Furniture are able to help you locate a piece after a quick conversation. He said the shop is also good for customers who don’t have time to wait for shipping as the items they show are sure to be in stock and ready to go with little wait time.
One advantage of being a family-owned store is the ability to work together and pass down knowledge. Brown has been able to directly learn about the business’s past from the generations before him. This knowledge helps him better prepare for any challenges the store may face in the future. Brown says working with family is also helpful because he knows he can depend on them.
Seven other businesses were recognized in this month’s spotlight they were: Golden Lamb in Lebanon, 5t Avenue Floral in Columbus, Morris Hardware in McConnelsville, WHK Radio in Independence, The J.M. Smucker Company in Orrville, Scioto Sign in Kenton and Toledo Ticket Company in Toledo.
