Janelle Blaszka took a perfect game into the sixth inning and finished with a two-hit shutout while recording her 500th career strikeout to lead third-seeded Toms River South to an 8-0 win over 14th-seeded Ocean City in the first round of the South Jersey, Group 3 playoffs in Toms River.
Blaszka had a no-hitter in the seventh before allowing singles to Anna McCabe and Annabelle Shumski and giving way to Chloe Seluchins, who closed the door. Blaszka struck out 14 and walked one.
Gillian Slowinski homered and drove in three runs and Izzy LaPerry went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Toms River South improved to 17-7 and will face sixth-seeded Lacey or 11th-seeded Westampton Tech in the quarterfinals.
Ocean City fell to 5-12.
Timber Creek 8, Cherry Hill West 5
Devin Brandley went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI and seventh-seeded Timber Creek used a five-run sixth inning to rally past 10th-seeded Cherry Hill West.
Cherry Hill West scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead but Timber Creek answered with a five-spot in the bottom of the frame to take command. The visitors got within three with a run in the top of the seventh but could not muster a comeback.
Julianna Coluccio went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs and Brandley earned the win for Timber Creek, which improved to 10-8 and will face second-seeded Burlington Township in the quarterfinals.
Camryn Kitchin went 3-for-3 for Cherry Hill West, which fell to 9-10.
Seneca 1, Moorestown 0
Seneca, the 12th seed, broke a scoreless tie in the top of the eighth inning and held on to edge fifth-seeded Moorestown.
Seneca improved to 9-8 and advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will face fourth-seeded Delsea.
Moorestown fell to 9-9.
