Public hearing set for Monday, June 6, on MinnWest Technology Campus property tax abatement – West Central Tribune
WILLMAR
— MinnWest Technology Campus is asking the city for an additional property tax abatement as it continues to make improvements on the property.
The Willmar City Council set the public hearing for Monday, June 6, during the regular council meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services building in Willmar.
A previous agreement approved in 2015 was for a 10-year property tax abatement of approximately $416,000 on the condition that MinnWest create a minimum of 175 full-time jobs and spend $8 million on capital projects and improvements by Dec. 31, 2025.
MinnWest has exceeded the number of full-time workers and continues to work on fulfilling the capital investment requirement, according to Willmar Planning and Development Director Justice Walker. The property tax abated to date is $265,620 since 2015.
MinnWest is now pursuing abatement from the city of Willmar for three additional buildings on the eastern side of the campus. City staff will present the finances of the project — and provide their recommendations — at the public hearing.
