
Pittsburgh mayor to meet with South Side business owners about public safety
Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey will sit down with south side business owners Tuesday to talk about public safety.On Friday night, Gainey, his chief of staff, his public safety director and Councilman Bruce Kraus took a late-night visit to East Carson Street which has seen several acts of violence in recent weeks.The violence has prompted at least one business to close its South Side location. The Fudge Farm’s East Carson Street location earlier this month announced that it is closing its South Side location.The decision came following two shootings in the area.“A massive crowd rushed in here, and they were running through the restaurant. They were in the kitchen just trying to seek shelter, and at that point, I knew enough was enough. It’s just too much. I can’t, with a good conscience, let teenagers work down here,” Fudge Farm owner Molly Rainey said.Tuesday’s meeting is at South Side Market House on Bedford Square. Attendees can sign in and sign up to speak starting at 5:30 p.m.The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
