Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

LAS VEGAS — The finalists are out for the biggest awards in baseball and few of the names should be surprising.

Justin Verlander is one of three finalists for the American League Cy Young Award, which would be the third of his career and his second since being traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Houston Astros in 2017. Verlander has also finished second in the voting three times (most recently in 2018).

Verlander is 39 years old and coming off Tommy John surgery, while his top two competitors — 26-year-old Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox and 24-year-old Alek Manoah of the Toronto Blue Jays — are just youngsters.

Here are the rest of the finalists for next week’s slate of awards:

AL MVP: DH/left fielder Yordan Alvarez, Astros; outfielder Aaron Judge, Yankees; and RHP/DH Shohei Ohtani, Angels.

NL MVP: First baseman Paul Goldschmidt, Cardinals; third baseman Nolan Arenado, Cardinals; third baseman Manny Machado, Padres.

AL Cy Young: RHP Dylan Cease, White Sox; RHP Alek Manoah, Blue Jays; and RHP Justin Verlander, Astros.

NL Rookie of the Year: Utility man Brendan Donovan, Cardinals; center fielder Michael Harris II, Braves; and RHP Spencer Strider, Braves.

AL Manager of the Year: Terry Francona, Guardians; Brandon Hyde, Orioles; and Scott Servais, Mariners.
