Four Sports Post Perfect APR Scores
KENT, Ohio – Four Kent State teams (Men’s Golf, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Golf and Women’s Gymnastics) received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for academic excellence. Those four teams scored a perfect 1,000 over the four-year period from 2017-2021, highlighting the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) from the NCAA.
Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn 1 point for remaining eligible and 1 point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.
The NCAA’s latest report marks the seventh-consecutive year at least four Kent State teams earned a perfect multi-year APR score.
Four additional teams posted a perfect APR score in the last reported season (2020-21) with Women’s Cross Country, Field Hockey, Women’s Softball and Women’s Soccer earning the mark.
“I am incredibly proud of the continued academic success of our student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Randale L. Richmond said. “These results are truly a department-wide team effort and another building block in our foundation to graduate student-athletes who are boldly prepared for life after sport.”
