Hettinger: “During my time at Allure, I have learned more than I thought I’d learn in this short time. The women there make sure I am learning the Do’s and Don’ts in Cosmetology. In this time period, I have learned different vocabulary to use at the salon. Such as instead of saying ‘Let’s wash your hair’ you should say, ‘Let’s shampoo your hair’ or instead of saying ‘dying your hair,’ you should say ‘coloring your hair.’ The difference in using the terms has helped immensely. I have learned about the levels of the hair colors. For example, a Level 1, is the darkest you can go. A Level 10 and higher is the lightest you can go. Then, of course you can bleach the hair as well. I have learned about foiling the hair and how there are different ways to bleach the hair. I have also been taught how to mix the hair coloring and bleach. This opportunity has made me realize that I want to go to Cosmetology school more now than I did last year.”
What do you think of the internship program? “I think the internship program is a great opportunity for students to get to see what really happens day-to-day in the career field they are interested in. The program allows them to determine if the profession they are interning with is what they want to pursue after graduating from high school.”
Why were you willing to participate? “I was willing to participate in the internship program because I enjoy giving back to our community as much as possible. I have participated in the program in the past and would be happy to again in the future. I think the program is a great way to help students decide more about their future careers.”
