  • Holiday Extra, the first business in newly available space at Duluth’s Holiday Mall, will open in the next two weeks. Located on the second floor of the downtown mall, Holiday Extra will sell newspapers, magazines, candy, cigarettes, souvenirs and similar items.
  • Licensed practical nurses at Duluth’s St. Luke’s hospital voted yesterday to accept a new contract that includes a 19.3% pay increase over the next two years. The contract also increases compensation for working afternoons and evenings and overtime compensation for weekends.

  • At a meeting in Duluth yesterday, William Culkin was appointed chairman of a committee to investigate the status of a former county historical society. The meeting was called to reorganize the old society into the St. Louis County Historical Society.
  • The Blue Valley Creamery Company, one of the largest butter-producing firms in the Midwest, has completed negotiations for opening a branch plant in Duluth. The company will construct a two-story building adjacent to the McDougall Warehouse Company on Railroad Street.
