Area volleyball roundup for Oct. 13: KWL’s Ryann Nielsen reaches 2,000 career assist mark – Mitchell Republic

KIMBALL, S.D. — Ryann Nielsen reached 2,000 career assists for Kimball/White Lake on a big statistical night in a three-set sweep of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in high school volleyball action on Thursday night.

Nielsen had 16 kills, 20 assists, 14 digs and six aces in the match, while reaching the career set assist milestone. Teammate Dani Deffenbaugh had 22 kills, 15 digs and three aces for the Wildkats’ victory.

For SCW, Liz Boschee had nine kills and five digs, while Bailey Feistner had 12 assists and Kenna Ochsner had 13 digs for the Blackhawks.

KWL (16-8) travels to play Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Monday, Oct. 17 in New Holland. SCW (8-16) will host Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday, Oct. 18 in Woonsocket.

  • Platte-Geddes won in three sets on Thursday night against Chamberlain on the strength of 29 set assists from Avery DeVries and 12 kills, 12 digs and four aces from Regan Hoffman. Karly VanDerWerff had 10 kills, 16 digs and five aces for the Black Panthers. 
  • Emma Yost had 13 kills, 16 digs and six ace serves for Wagner in a road win at Andes Central/Dakota Christian. Kya Kjeldgaard had 10 kills and Macy Koupal had 41 assists and 11 digs in the win for the Red Raiders. Abigail Svatos had 10 kills for the home-standing Thunder. 
  • In Parkston’s three-set win over Parker, Mya Nuebel had 12 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Faith Oakley added 22 set assists and nine digs and Gracie Oakley had seven kills for the Trojans in the win. 
  • Adisyn Indahl had 17 kills and 14 digs as Burke rolled to a three-set win on Thursday. Kailee Frank had eight kills, eight digs and four aces in the Cougars’ win over Gregory.  
  • Players on both sides racked up impressive stats in the match between Gayville-Volin and Bridgewater-Emery, with the Raiders winning in four sets. Maia Achen had 24 kills and 28 digs for G-V, while Taylor Hoxeng had 38 digs in the win. Kennedie Roskens had 38 digs for B-E, while Hayden Hofer had nine kills, 20 assists, 18 digs and three aces in the Huskies’ effort. 
  • Morgan Gemar had five aces for Tripp-Delmont/Armour, which picked up a road sweep at Scotland on Thursday, with Megan Reiner adding 14 digs and seven kills. Martina DeBoer had a match-high 11 kills for Scotland. 
  • Colome won in five sets on Thursday over visiting White River, with Toree Ringing Shield posting 11 kills. Landi Krumpus added 23 digs for the Cowgirls, while Ta’Na Bear Heels logging 22 digs, eight kills and 11 total blocks for the Tigers. 
  • Lexi Klein had a rare triple-double on the volleyball court — 10 kills, 11 assists and 10 digs — in Winner’s four-set home win, which included six aces from Aleya Miller. Payton DeLange had 22 digs and eight kills for Corsica-Stickney, which picked up 17 assists and 21 digs from Sutten Eide, as well. 
  • Courtney Sees had eight kills and 21 digs and McKenna Kocmich had 23 assists and four aces but Avon fell in five sets against Centerville. Thea Gust had 10 kills and five aces for the Tornadoes. 
  • Mallory Miller had nine kills and five blocks for Wolsey-Wessington in a sweep of Wessington Springs on Thursday. Avery Orth had a match-high 12 kills, and Alyssa Grohs had 26 assists and 17 digs for the Spartans.
