JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas — It’s Mission Monday! Cynthia Woods is the chief of Air Force Food and Beverage Business Development at the Air Force Services Center Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
Her responsibilities include the renovation of appropriated fund (APF) dining facilities from traditional cafeteria-style feeding to platforms found in university campuses. Transition to Food 2.0 provides a modern facility, health-conscious options, variety, increased hours of operation and several Grab-n-Go options.
“Our team manages everything from conceptual design all the way to grand opening,” Woods said.

What do you love about your job?
Being able to provide opportunities to choose from a variety of quality and reasonably priced healthy food options.
When it comes to your job, what keeps you motivated?
Industry discovery…finding ways to make customers want to come back whether its robots’ prepping meals, use of multi-functional energy equipment or menu ordering apps. There’s always something we can do to improve both the customer’s and our employees’ experience.
Why are you and your team important to the Air Force enterprise/your customers?
Honestly, I believe that food service plays a vital role in providing the required nourishment that affect everyone’s day-to-day activities.
Describe a project or event you and your team worked on recently that gave you a great sense of accomplishment:
The grand opening of Nellis AFB Dining Facility in Nevada! It was a great achievement despite pandemic obstacles during renovations with supply chains, travel restrictions and daily material cost adjustments.
How does what you do fit within AFIMSC’s strategic priorities?
Food 2.0 program expansion is key to strengthening Airmen, Guardians and families throughout installations. Opening doors to the base populace encourages a sense of community, recharges minds and provides bodies with the dietary food preferences required for mission success.
Is there anything else you’d like to add which might help people understand the importance of what you do for the Air Force?
“We hear you!” Our team is incorporating more Grab-N-Go, healthier options, robust menu’s choices and accessibility of food closer to where you work to minimize travel time.
