A look back at Jocelyn Alo’s Oklahoma career

Read Time:6 Minute, 32 Second

All-time great. Certainly in softball, but in collegiate athletics in general. Jocelyn Alo became the face of one of the more dominant two-year runs in college softball that have had media and fans debating its place among the great teams in NCAA history.

Jocelyn Alo’s chase for 95 became the talk of the sports world as she approached fellow Sooner legend Lauren Chamberlain’s career home run record. And not only did she break the record, she shattered it, hitting 122 home runs for her career, 27 more than Chamberlain.

Hitting the record-breaking home run in her native state of Hawaii was just one of the many storybook moments during her illustrious career.

But it was never simply about individual records for Alo, who wanted to be her best so that the Oklahoma Sooners could be their best. And over the last two seasons, the Sooners finished the season as the national champions. In 2022, they went wire-to-wire as the No. 1 team in the nation and that’s due in large part to what Alo was able to accomplish at the plate.

In 2022, Alo hit an astounding .515 at the plate with 34 home runs and 85 RBIs. It was her third season with 30 or more home runs, the first player in NCAA history to accomplish the feat. With her historic run in the 2022 NCAA tournament, ended up as the NCAA’s home run leader for the third time in her career, another thing that had never been done before.

Her career ended just as it should have. On top. Back-to-back NCAA championships, back-to-back Collegiate Player of the Year awards, two-time Big 12 Player of the Year recipient and the 2018 Freshman of the Year in college softball and in the Big 12.

She was the most dominant player in the sport during her tenure and became must-see television. She brought joy and a passion for the game that was part of growing the game to historic heights.

With Jocelyn Alo moving on to the next stage of her softball career, let’s take a look back at some of the best photos of her incredible, all-time great career.
